GLtron - Free Fun Tron Clone

The first version of GLtron (0.1) was written on a rainy afternoon in June 1998, as an exercise for the computer graphics course at the university. After that, nothing happened.

Over the time, I improved it, released / announced / got feedback and released again. People started contributing small patches. I added textures, I received a soundtrack, a lightcycle model, better textures, tons of ideas etc.

Inspired by the movie TRON. Or more exactly, by all the games that where inspired by the movie TRON.

You steer a futuristic bike, called lightcycle. Combat takes place in a rectangular arena. Your bike leaves a trail behind, which is like a wall. The goal is to force the other players to drive into a wall. The winner is the last player alive.

CRON-O-Meter is freeopen source, and cross-platform dieting software.

CR (Calorie Reduced) diets require a lot of information to perform optimally. In order to restrict caloric intake, but remain healthy, users of the diet must track their vitamin, mineral, and protein intakes with great care.

We aim to provide a complete solution to the CR dieter. Current open-source diet-tracking applications fall short in some vital respects. Either they are not detailed enough, or they suffer from critical usability flaws. We believe that a diet tracker must be effortless to operate for the activity for which it will be used most of the time, keeping track of the foods eaten in a particular meal.

To this end, we are developing CRON-O-Meter, an application that will take into account good usability design and dense functionality. It will provide diet advice, track consumption and exercise, and generally assist in all aspects of a CR diet.

It is very easy to fall into bad habits when using a computer for hours on end. You care about what you are doing, so can sometimes push yourself too far, or over-strain yourself. The human body isn’t built to sit in one position for endless hours, gripping a mouse or typing on the keyboard.Dejal Time Out is here to help. It will gently remind you to take a break on a regular basis.

Time Out has two kinds of breaks: a “Normal” break, typically for 10 minutes after 50 minutes of work, so you can move about and relax, plus a “Micro” break: a very brief pause of typically 10 seconds every 10 minutes, so you can remember not to tense up too much for long periods. You can disable either kind of break if desired, and the breaks are automatically paused when you go away from your computer, and can be reset when you come back.

Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a student’s first exposure to object-oriented programming. It allows students to learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated movies and simple video games. In Alice, 3-D objects (e.g., people, animals, and vehicles) populate a virtual world and students create a program to animate the objects.

In Alice’s interactive interface, students drag and drop graphic tiles to create a program, where the instructions correspond to standard statements in a production oriented programming language, such as Java, C++, and C#. Alice allows students to immediately see how their animation programs run, enabling them to easily understand the relationship between the programming statements and the behavior of objects in their animation. By manipulating the objects in their virtual world, students gain experience with all the programming constructs typically taught in an introductory programming course.

Smultron is a free text editor for Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 which is both easy to use and powerful.  It is designed to neither confuse newcomers nor disappoint advanced users. It should work perfectly for a whole variety of needs - like web programming, script editing, making a to do list and so on.

Smultron has all open documents in a list with beautiful Quick Look icons to your left just like e.g. iTunes so you can easily switch between many documents - you can also choose to display them as tabs if you prefer it that way.

It is easy to program with Smultron as it colours the content in different colours depending on what the code does. And you also have many ways to search for words and line numbers to help finding the code you are looking for. You can also split the window in two to display two parts of the same document or to compare two different documents side by side.

You can also preview HTML-files directly in Smultron and save snippets of text and insert them simply with a shortcut. And if you don’t want to be disturbed by other applications or the desktop you can let Smultron cover the whole screen to let you concentrate on your work.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a good way to specify the styles of fonts and other page elements on your sites. It makes it easier for you to update styles too, because when done right, you only need to make a single change to update the styles on multiple pages and elements.

Another bonus is that your visitor’s browser needs to load less data per page, helping you reduce your data transfer usage while serving the same information. That means you’ll be able to accommodate more site visitors without having to spend more on data transfer. Your pages will also load faster.

To help you work with CSS, we’ve created a free tool called Simple CSS, which runs on Macs, Windows and Linux. Simple CSS allows you to easily create Cascading Style Sheets from scratch, and/or modify existing ones, using a familiar point-and-click interface.

With Simple CSS, you can manage multiple CSS projects and import your existing style sheets. Simple CSS supports CSS2.

Senuti is a simple Mac OS X application for transferring songs from your iPod back to your computer.

There are many good reasons that someone would have to transfer music from her iPod back to her computer. There are many good ways to do it, too. Senuti is the only alternative that will give you the power and convenience that you need, wrapped in an interface that is extremely easy to use, at a cost that you can’t complain about.

    • Lightning fast – There’s a little file on your iPod called the iTunesDB file. What does that mean to you? Nothing. What does that mean to me? Everything. Every bit of information on every song on your iPod is stored in this little file. Every bit of information on your playlists is stored in this file, too. It’s how iTunes knows what’s on your iPod. It’s how your iPod knows what’s there, too. There isn’t a much faster way to figure out what’s on your iPod.
    • Finding Songs – Senuti includes all of the built in options that one would expect to find songs. You can search and sort in any combination of ways that you want. That’s not quite enough sometimes, though. Sometimes you might want to know if you’re copying the right song. Know how it goes, but don’t know if that title is quite right? Play it! That’s right, Senuti will play songs directly off of your iPod. It can even double as a jukebox player for your Shuffle or any other iPod.
    • Playlists – Senuti not only reads the playlists that you made on your iPod, but it allows you to transfer them back to your computer as well. A simple drag and drop action within the application will not only copy songs to your computer and and add them to iTunes, but it will make a new playlist with the same name and add all of the songs to that list.
    • Seamless Integration – Adding songs to your computer, you’re probably going to add them to iTunes right after that, right? What if you didn’t have to, wouldn’t that be great? Well you don’t have to. Senuti will do all of the work for you. What work you want it to do is up to you. You can have songs added to iTunes if you want. You can have all of your music organized into folders by artist and album, too. The option’s yours.

Propagator is made for schools with large Mac file servers and tech people who would like to copy one file (or many files, or many folders) into the folders of dozens, or hundreds, or thousands of users. Great for preference files.

    Crash course:
Drag all the preferences you want to copy to all users into the big draggable area in the Propagator window.
Choose what folder you want all those preferences to go into. That “Common Places” pulldown near the second field has a lot of…well, common places. You can also just type the folder you want if you are so inclined, or leave it blank for the top level of each user’s home directory.
Choose the folder that contains all your user folders for the third field.

Click “Set Ownership” if you want files to get the correct permissions (a good idea).
Click “Lock Files After Copy” if you don’t want kids messing with your new settings.
Click “Just Delete Existing Items” if you want Propagator to just delete corresponding copies of what’s in the “Copy These Items” list. A good way to get rid of Cache folders or other unhappy things.

If you want to choose a specific set of users to copy to, click the “Choose Users…” button and a drawer will pop out with the names of all users. You can add, subract or clear all names.
OR…, you can create your own customized list much quicker. “Paste Clipboard” will enter a list of names you’ve copied from a text document, AppleWorks or Excel spreadsheet, or even just a bunch of user folders you batch-selected and copied from the Finder.

Anxiety is a super-lightweight To-do list application for Mac OS X Leopard that synchronizes with iCal and Mail. Its aim is to provide a streamlined, easily accessible interface to add and check off your tasks, while remaining poised to melt into the background at a moments notice.

    Synchronized

Anxiety utilizes Leopard’s Calendar Store — a new system-wide database that contains your calendars, events and to-dos — toremain in sync with iCal and Mail. Add, remove, or check off a task in either Anxiety or one of these apps, and the changes will be reflected in the others.

    Integrated

Anxiety is perfectly integrated with Apple’s other applications that posses to-do functionality: Double-clicking a list item reveals the task in iCal or Mail for extended editing, and simple shortcuts allow you to see your full list externally.

SignatureProfiler is a plugin for Apple’s Mail application that adds missing features from the way that signatures are handled and managed with your outgoing mail messages, especially if you have multiple mail accounts (and who doesn’t these days). It was originally written to make up for the complete lack of signature management in versions 1.x of the program, but even 2.x is still missing some capabilities if you use several different accounts and what to share signatures between accounts.

In Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Apple has introduced Time Machine, a very convenient way to make backups. Unfortunately the backup interval is preset constantly to one hour. Apple uses an launchd daemon to control the timing, but changing the interval value in the launchd.plist file has no effect.

TimeMachineScheduler disables the automatic backup function of Time Machine and installs its own launchd daemon. As the daemon is located in the main library, the administrator password is required for all (writing) operations. Except disabling Time Machine no further system files and preferences will be touched by TimeMachineScheduler.

Scorched 3D is a game based loosely (or actually quite heavily now) on the classic DOS game Scorched Earth ”The Mother Of All Games”. Scorched 3D adds amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play. Scorched 3D is totally free and is available for both Microsoft Windows and Unix (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Solaris etc.) operating systems.

You can pick up the game and begin playing very quickly. Then, when/if you are interested, you can poke in the dimmer recesses of the game and get into the strategy (or just ignore it altogether!).

At its lowest level, Scorched 3D is just an artillery game with two+ tanks taking turns to destroy opponents in an arena. Choose the angle, direction and power of each shot, launch your weapon, and try to blow up other tanks. That’s basically it.
